A mountain is a landform that rises high above the surrounding terrain in a limited area. Mountains are composed of rocks and earth.
Generally, mountains are higher than 600 metres. The ones which are less than 600 metres are called hills. A mountain range is a group or chain of mountains which are located close to each other. Mountain ranges are usually separated from each other by passes and rivers.

- Antarctica :- Antarctic Peninsula, Transantarctic Mountains. The highest mountains is Vinson Massif in the Ellsworth Mountains. It peaks at 4897 m.
- Africa :- Atlas, Eastern African Highlands, Ethiopian Highlands.
- Asia :- Hindu Kush, Himalayas, Taurus, Elburz, Japanese Mountains.
- Australia :- MacDonnell Mountains.
- Europe :- Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians, Apennines, Urals, Balkan Mountains.
- North America :- Appalachians, sierra Nevada, Rocky Mountains, Laurentides.
- South America :- Andes, Brazilian Highlands.
