Earth is the third planet from the Sun and is the fifth largest in terms of its size…
History of The Earth :-
Earth is the only planet whose English name has not been derived from Greek/Roman mythology. Its name has been derived from Old English and Germanic. There are of course, hundreds of other names for the planet in different languages. In Roman Mythology, the goddess of Earth was Tellus- the fertile soil. It was only during of Copernicus time that the Earth was accepted to be just another planet.
Surface of The Earth :-
Although we think of the Earth as being fixed and stable, it actually moves constantly. However, this movement is too slow for us to notice, because it is only between one to six inches per year. it takes millions of years for the land to cover a considerable distance.
The Lithosphere :-
The part of land that moves on the Earth’s surface is called lithosphere. The lithosphere is made up of the Earth’s crust and a part of the upper mantle. It moves in the form of big chunks of land called tectonic plates. some of these plates are huge and cover entire continents.
