The Peacock and the Crane…
- Once upon a time in a jungle, A peacock was very vain. He always boasted about his beautiful looks.
- Everyday he would go to the bank of a river. He would stand there and admire his own reflection in the water.
- He would say, “Just look at my tail ! Look at the colours in y feathers ! Look at me ! I must be the most beautiful bird in the world.”
- One day the peacock saw a crane on the bank. He looked at it and turned his face away.
- Then he rudely said to the crane. “What a colourless bird you are ! Your feathers look so plain and dull.”
- The crane said, “Your feathers are surely beautiful and mine are not. But so what ? With your feathers you cannot fly very high, while my feathers can carry me high up in the sky.”
Moral of this story is “Usefulness is better than mere beauty.”

मोर और सारस…
- एक बार की बात है, एक जंगल में एक मोर बहुत घमंडी था। वह हमेशा अपने खूबसूरत लुक का घमंड करते थे।
- वह प्रतिदिन किसी नदी के किनारे जाता था। वह वहाँ खड़ा होता और पानी में अपने प्रतिबिम्ब की प्रशंसा करता।
- वह कहता, “बस मेरी पूँछ को देखो! मेरे पंखों के रंगों को देखो! मुझे देखो! मैं दुनिया का सबसे सुंदर पक्षी होना चाहिए।”
- एक दिन मोर ने किनारे पर एक सारस देखा। उसने इसे देखा और अपना चेहरा दूसरी ओर घुमा लिया।
- फिर उसने बगुले से बड़ी बेरहमी से कहा। “तुम कितने रंगहीन पक्षी हो! तुम्हारे पंख बहुत सादे और नीरस दिखते हैं।”
- सारस ने कहा, “तुम्हारे पंख निश्चित रूप से सुंदर हैं और मेरे नहीं। लेकिन फिर क्या? अपने पंखों के साथ तुम बहुत ऊंची उड़ान नहीं भर सकते, जबकि मेरे पंख मुझे आकाश में ऊपर तक ले जा सकते हैं।”
इस कहानी से यह सिख मिलती है कि “केवल सुंदरता से उपयोगिता बेहतर है।”
